Who said it never snows in Devon? While locals to Totnes enjoyed unprecedented snow and sledging down the High Street this month, many travellers were stuck with no where to go. Our staff worked tirelessly to keep our doors open, taking in stranded travellers wherever possible and as we were fully booked, let people keep warm and safe overnight in our bars, ballroom and assembly room. Despite the chaos caused by the snow, we witnessed some great acts of kindness and would like to say special thanks to Lucy our General Manager for giving up her bed for the night; the Morrison’s pharmacist who stayed at our hotel rather than going home to ensure he could dispense medicine to those in need; to Luscombe Butchers who made their way to Totnes just to provide us with sausages and to the nursing team at Totnes Hospital who also stayed with us to look after others. Totnes community – We salute you!
